Once upon a time....

...Class 4 were asked to create stories in groups based on themes we have been looking at in class. These themes included fairy tales, fantasy and stories set in a familiar context. Each group was given time to prepare a group story telling and they were also challenged to include three out of six plot ideas provided. Some chose to share the speaking parts....
....while other groups opted to have a main narrator and use the rest of the group to scare the living daylights out of the audience at the moment of their cliffhanger ending!
All groups were judged on their use of characterisation, team work and ideas.

The judge's results were very close indeed! Kallista, Frankie, Taylor and Bella came in joint first place with a group of Charles, Saville and Emma earning them a team point each. Charles in particular deserves a special mention as he narrated his entire fantasy story (supported by Saville's sound effects and Emma's cameo turn) completely from memory with such a richness of detail that Mr Sturgess became so absorbed he forgot to take a picture of the group! Charles rightly earned an extra team point for this outstanding contribution to a fantastic lesson. Class 4 have a great imagination - well done!

The Vikings are coming!

Class 3 had a fantastic day when we time travelled back to Viking times. We discovered that the Vikings were not only fierce warriors, but also traders, sailors, settlers and farmers.

In our Literacy lesson we created captions for some of the photographs taken on our day.

Caution: Children charging!

Be warned - it's all for M'lady!

This Viking needs to tie his shoelaces.

This Viking puts her back into it!

Someone is having a dead cool day!
Can you think of other captions to suit our photographs? Add them in the comments box, we'd love to read your ideas.

Viking Raiders for the Day!

Welcometo our new Class 1

A very big welcome to all our new children and families who are new to the school. We have had a very busy time in class One over the past few weeks. All the children are settling brilliantly into our school and classroom routines. We're getting to know each other and trying out all the exciting activities in the classroom, garden and playground.

If you haven't already seen it, please remember to look out for our class notice board. It is displayed every Friday morning and evening in the playground and should help to keep you informed about what the children have been doing during the week.
We're getting good at working together and in small groups.
Last week we had our photo taken for the newspaper.

Hopping mad in pictures!

We've all gone hopping mad!

On Wednesday Class 3 and Class 4 went hop picking on the Harewood Estate. Mr Nicholson, the head gardener, invited us to help with the hop harvest.
Do you know what a hop is? It is part of a plant that is used to brew beer. Here is just a handful of the buckets of hops we picked - phew!

The walled garden was very hot, so we were very pleased that Mr. Nicholson provided some refreshing water for his workers!

We did take time to smell the lovely flowers.

Some of the hops looked like aliens - well we thought so!

Frankie and Kallista were the leaders of the winning teams - well done everyone! Soon it was time to march back to school. What a tiring day!
