Throughout this year the children in Class 4 have taken part in the Arch Bishop of York's Young Leaders award which empowers young people to make changes in their local community by taking part in social action. The project is underpinned by Christian Values and the story of the Good Samaritan from the Bible is a central message. Last week the children planned, organised and carried out their community action project which was a school fair, run by the children for the children, in order to raise money for various charities. All the charities were researched and chosen by the children themselves.
We had mocktails, nail painting, henna, candyfloss and popcorn, penalty
shoot outs, snow cones, faces paints, name the teddy and guess the number of sweets in the jar.
All the children in school, the teachers and some parents too, came to visit the fair during the morning and we think they had a great time.
Class 4 raised over £330 for their chosen charities which include St Gemma's Hospice, Save the Children, World Wildlife Fund, Henshaws College, Make a Wish Foundation and Cancer Research.
I am sure you will agree that the children in Class 4 have demonstrated that they are aspiring young leaders, and that they are able to look beyond themselves and think about others in their community.
