A Right Royal Knees Up!

A great big thank you to the PTA who helped us get our Royal Wedding Celebrations off to a fabulous start. Dressed in red, white and blue we took part in lots of fantastic activities organised by Sports Xtra. To keep up our energy levels we had jelly and ice-cream!
In the hall we had a street dance workshop, we impressed the instructors with how quickly we learnt the routines.
The sun came out to warm up the afternoon. Mums and dads were able to enjoy afternoon tea supplied by the PTA.
Although we all dressed in royal colours - some of us went even further! Is this a sneak preview of Kate's dress?
We really enjoyed the crossbows and archery. They were easy to use and lots of fun!

The ladies from the PTA continued to work hard throughout the afternoon.
Class 2 raised a glass to William and Kate.

Year 5 Easter Poem

The Year 5 children worked together to write a poem. They set out to contrast modern Easter celebrations with the Christian Easter story.

Easter Poem

The spring flowers lying lazily in the fields and gardens,
scattered across the grassy green carpet,
bright colours like a pretty spring rainbow.

A peaceful evening, a group gathered in Gethsemane’s garden.
Shouts and stomping shatter the quiet.
A kiss from a friend brings betrayal

Hot cross buns packed with raisins,
crisply toasted texture and tangy taste.
Oozing with warm, melting butter.

Convicted, mocked and beaten
A crown of sharp thorns
Digging into his head
Whips tearing his back
Oozing blood

The excitement of waking in glorious anticipation.
Terrific adventures hunting high and low for yummy treats.
Joyful discoveries of hidden prizes.

The horror of the crucifixion.
Hours of agony
Suffering and death

Shiny ovals of tinfoil,
tightly snuggling the contents like a colourful duvet.
It’s bumpy surface teasing,
hinting at the chocolate treasure within.

Cold and lifeless, the body and the tomb.
The body,
wrapped in white and scented with spices
sealed inside the stone walls
with a boulder like a giant gobstopper.

Ripping wrapping
To reveal its sweet secrets.

Helpless, hopeless, heartbroken
Dreams shattered to pieces like smashed glass.
Despair like a heavy black cloud.

The lovely chocolate slowly melts in your mouth,
tantalising and teasing your taste buds.
It coats your mouth in soft, sugary silkiness.

Slipping silently through the gloomy darkness
Astonished at the open tomb
Like a black hole sucking me in
It’s empty
No body there
Nobody to blame

Lambs leaping happily,
Skipping,
Celebrating their new life.

Someone with me
Speaking softly
His voice tickles my ears
Warm,
Familiar,
It is my Lord
Alive again.
Tears of joy drown my eyes
Overflowing with happiness
Like I am shining gold.

Stuffed full of sugary treats
The heavy feeling of queasy sickness,
A hidden monster gurgling in your stomach
Threateningly
Gorged like an addict,
But now miserably regretting.

Death defeated
Finally and forever
Joyfully celebrating
Security and safety
Forgiven
Freed from fear
Hope restored
by our Saviour and Lord.

Mrs Hebbron retires

At the end of last term we said goodbye to Mrs Hebbron, our school cook who had been at the school for over 20 years. There was an article about her in the Wetherby News during the holiday which you can read by following this link:
