Class 2 Easter Eggstravaganza

Class 2 had a very busy last day of the Spring term. It started with the Easter Breakfast in which we performed a short drama sketch about Mary finding out that Jesus was missing from the tomb on Easter morning.

Then we made some delicious Easter nests using cornflakes and chocolate.

We made some origami Easter Bunnies by following instructions carefully and  folding a square piece of paper. Hoppy Easter everyone!

Finally we all waited in eager anticipation as the Easter raffle was drawn. Class 2  have been awarded raffle tickets for good behaviour, good manner and excellent work during the last two week of term and there could only be one winner and the winner was.....James! Congratulations to a deserving winner.

Jewish Heritage Centre Class2

This week class 2 visited the Jewish Heritage Centre in Shadwell. We had a fantastic day learning about Judaism.

First we had a talk about the Jewish Faith in the past and today.

Then we visited the shtetl which is a 19th Century Eastern European Village which showcases how Jewish people lived in the past.

We did a variety of activites throughout the day including braiding Challah for the traditional Shabbat meal.

We were told that the 7 ingredients ( flour, oil, sugar, water, yeast, eggs and salt) represent the 7 days of the week. Jews believe that God created the world in 6 days and on the 7th day God rested. Shabbat is a day of rest.

We finished our bread off with sweet sprinkles or seeds and it tasted delicious.

We made a cover for our bread in the craft area. We wrote the word "Shabbat" in Hebrew letter using a stencil. We have to remember to start on the right hand side because Hebrew is read from right to left.

We visited a model supermarket and looked for signs that meant that the food was kosher.

We paid for our shopping at the till...

and prepared a kosher meal in the kosher kitchens.

We all enjoyed out delicious kosher sandwiches at lunchtime. All that activity had made us very hungry!

After lunch we visited the synagogue. We found out more about the features of a synagogue including having a look at the Torah Scrolls in the ark.
