On Friday morning Class 4 hosted a charity event as part of their participation in the Archbishop of York's Youth Leaders Award.
During R.E. lessons we have been finding out about different charities and the work they do.
The children pitched their chosen charities to the rest of the class. Many of the charities were chosen for personal reasons and everyone displayed a mature and responsible attitude.
The children decided they would like to raise money for the charities they had researched and they suggested holding an event in school. So a date was set and ...
...the children organised themselves and started planning their stalls.
They made posters to advertise their stall and the charity they were supporting.
On the day all the planning came together and the children arrived at school ready to set up.
It was quite clear that the children had put a great deal of thought and effort into the preparations.
They had thought of everything including table cloths, prizes, price lists and even extension leads!
The organisational skills were very impressive to see.
The groups supplied everything that was needed and they shared the responsibilities out between themselves.
It was a brilliant display of teamwork and good management skills...
...and they had lots of fun too along the way!
Some children set up activities outside.
There was certainly something to appeal to everyone.
All the classes were looking forward to visiting the event and they were allowed to browse and spend their money at their leisure.
The cake stall was amazing..
the children had delicious homemade cakes.
The snow cones were a big success and there was a raffle as well to raise money for premature babies.
The popcorn was very popular and it made the hall smell lovely.
It was quite difficult to resist!
The nail bar was raising money for Macmillan and the boys were very skilled at applying the polish.
There was a great deal of choice..
.. and there were lots of satisfied customers.
The fashion design stall was raising money for SANE which is a mental health charity.
There were prizes for each class because the girls wanted to make sure it was judged fairly.
Lots of children were keen to get a tattoo done.
and the teachers too!
The ice cream stall went down very well,
with children of all ages.
It was so popular that the machine overheated a couple of times and some customers were left disappointed.
but they were determined to carry on and raise as much money as they could.
They had a very long queue all morning but the group kept their cool and dealt with the situation admirably.
The sweet stall was raising money for the RSPCA.
The girls has written to local supermarkets to ask for donations for their charity stall. They also has a guess the number of sweets in the jar competition. They showed real entrepreneurial skills.
On this stall children competed in a variety of sports events to win prizes.
There was a great competitive spirit from all the children..
...and the parents to!
The Archbishop's Trust aims to encourage young people to make the change they want to see in the world, in their schools and in their family. I am sure you will agree that this has been successfully demonstrated by Class 4 here. Well done to you all, you should be very proud of yourselves.
In total £281.03 was raised which will be shared between the children's chosen charities.
