The children in Class 3 had a fabulously festive day down on the Harewood Estate.
After a blustery walk down we dropped our lunches off in the Christmas snug.
First stop was the house, all beautifully decorated for Christmas. These children are George and Gerald, sons of Princess Mary. They are on their way to bed on Christmas Eve. What presents do you think they will be hoping for?
In this room the adults were having a 1920s Christmas party. The theme was gold and black and they were all dancing to jazz music played on a large gramophone.
The table in the dining room was set with the most magnificent cakes and desserts.
This is Pan the Greek god of nature. He is made of wicker and he is quite an imposing figure.
We then went below stairs to the kitchens where we saw lots of decorated gingerbread men.
Outside in the garden we saw a large Christmas wreath made by the gardeners.
It was then time for our first craft activity.
We wrote down some of our thoughts about what we had seen in the house in a special booklet.
We then used a pine cone, lard and bird seeds to make a winter bird feeder.
We went outside to look at the Harewood bird feeders which were hanging from a large tree.
All that activity made us feel very hungry, we were ready for our lunch.
In the afternoon we started on our second craft activity.
Which was to create a Christmas lantern.
We though they looked amazing.....
and when we turned the lights off they looked magical.
We ended our day back in the Christmas snug..
..and we all enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate before our walk back to school.
Before we left we all sang "We wish you a merry Christmas" to the Harewood staff .
We all had a great day out, and it was a lovely start to the festive season.
