RJC Phase 2

Year 6 The Maskaraiders!

Year 6 Carnival Crazy

Class 4 have been working hard on their dances for RJC which this year has a carnival theme. Emma and Naomi came into school on Wednesday afternoon to watch all our routines and give us tips on how to improve our dances. They were impressed at the progress we have made since phase 1 and at how well we were all working as a team.

We are now working hard on our routines and costumes ready for phase 3 in November when RJC will select one group to perform at Wetherby High School in front of a live audience. Keep up the energy year 6!

School Produce

During this year we've been growing fruit and vegatables in our school garden. We have grown carrots, parsnips, chillies, pumpkins, tomatoes and corn.

Here's are some pictures of the fruit and veg we have grown. They look brilliant and we are very proud of what we have achieved in the first crop from our garden. Thanks to Mrs Colling & Mrs Lockwood for all your hard work.

KS2 Cinema Trip - National Schools Film Week

Yesterday morning Class 3 and Class 4 went to the 'VUE' cinema in Kirkstall to watch the film G-FORCE in 3D. We all had a great time. It was about a mole that creates an army of evil robots that try to destroy the world. But the mole makes friends with some talking guinea pigs. If you haven't seen it I would recomend it. It is a great family film.

Wigton Moor vs Harewood football match

Thursday 15th of October 2009 Harewood Primary School played a football match agaist Wigton Moor. The first half was goalless, we nearly scored many times but their keeper was great and made lots of good saves. In the second half their keeper kept saving all of our shots and looked like it was going to be a nil nil draw. In the last five minutes their keeper hoofed the ball down the pitch it, bounced over our defender and the striker ran on to it and scored. The gaffer (Mr. Madeley) pushed a defender into midfield. Because of this, their strikers outnumbered our defenders and scored again. The final score was 2-0 to Wigton Moor.

Year 6 Residential

During the first week of term, Year 6 enjoyed a fabulous week at 'High Adventure Outdoor Education Centre' near Skipton.
We all took part in a wide range of activities: from walking along a high rope 12 metres from the ground, to crawling through tunnels in the labyrinth with only a torch for light!

One of the highlights of the week was travelling off site to the local reservoir for canoeing and raft building. The raft building was particularly challenging as we had to design, build and sail a raft big enough to carry our whole team. We were given just a few poles, barrels and rope!

There was a great deal of excitement when the teams tackled the high ropes. Who would dare to make the leap of faith?!! The abseiling and climbing wall were daunting for some of us who didn't like heights but we were all secure in a harness and worked together to encourage each other. With a little persuasion, we all had a go!
One of the most popular activities was the archery. It was something which most of us had never tried before; we thought it would be impossible to hit the target. By the end of the session, there were a few modern day Robin Hoods in the making and no-one wanted to stop!

The low ropes were a lot of fun - we couldn't achieve success if we didn't trust our team mates and work together.
We all enjoyed the orienteering - it was a race against time and the other teams. Great fun!

By the end of our week away, we were all very tired and a bit smelly but we brought back with us re-newed friendships and very happy memories.

Death on the Nile

On Friday the 2nd of October Class 3 visited the Leeds City Museum. When we got there a kind lady who works at the museum explained that she was going to be teaching us all day. I was very excited.

We split into three groups. Then we went upstairs to have a look at a real mummy. I felt scared by excited at the same time. We saw the mummy with his mouth open and he had two front brown teeth. Did you know that the Egyptians used to brush their teeth with sticks?

Our class then moved into a big classroom to do three group activities. The first group made an amulet with clay. The second group coloured in an Ancient Egyptian death mask. Finally, the third group made a mummy! We got a stuffed model of a body and took everything out except the heart. It was fun!

After lunch we went to look around in the other galleries. We got to dress up. All the boys dressed up as girls and were struggling to get in the dress! We learnt a lot about the Ancient Egyptians that we did not know. I can't wait for my next visit.

Harewood football match vs Deighton Gates

On Thursday evening our School football team had a match against Deighton Gates Primary school. We played 8-a side, which is unusual for our team because we normally play 7-a side. We kicked off at quarter to four, it was twenty minutes each half. At half time we were ahead by one goal to nil, thanks to an absolute stunner from Ben Mitchell. We played extremely well but unfortunately for us we conceded a close range shot and a late header which cost us the game.
