During science week the children in Class 2 have been finding out about atoms and molecules.
We found out that everything around us is made of atoms and that atoms are so small they are indivisible, which means they cannot be divided any more.
When two atoms join together they form a molecule. Molecules have strong bonds holding them together.
We used fuzzy balls to represent water, oxygen, salt and sugar molecules.
We found out about solids, liquids and gases. In a solid the atoms are packed closely together in a structure with strong bonds holding them together.
We sorted lots of different materials according to whether they are solids, liquids or gases.
The children asked lots of interesting questions such as how small is an atom and is sand a liquid or a solid because it can be poured?
We found out that water can be a solid, liquid or gas depending on what temperature it is. It can change from one state to another.
Well done Class 2, you have a great interest in chemistry and you are super scientists!
Very clever atoms and molecules!
ReplyDeleteThat was the best science week ever even though I've never had a science week I hope we do another (Isaac h)
