The countdown to Christmas has well and truly begun in Class One. Or at least it will on Tuesday when we open the first door on our Advent Calendars.
This week all the elements of our calendars were finished, including numeral formation on the doors (lots of lovely number twos and fives).
The children also thought about the counting numbers to twenty five e.g. What's one more than ...?). I was particularly impressed by their willingness to have a go and listen to instructions for the tricky numerals.
We talked about the numerals we found the most difficult and helped our friends by doing demonstrations. I also saw lots of child initiated practise with numerals in the children's play as they adapted and chose to record their own maths games.
I was so proud of all the children who independently (after being given instructions) chose Christmas pictures for the back of the Advent Calendar. Great cutting and sticking - I can't wait to see what is behind those first doors on Tuesday!
We have been learning about the characters and sequence of events in the Nativity story, in preparation for our own re-telling and it was time to see who had been paying attention when we sequenced the last five pictures for the final countdown to Christmas.
Fabulous phonics, tricky words and child ininitiated writing.
