Year 3 Yorkshire Adventure- Otley Chevin

After a little hike from the carpark we found a lovely view.
After a nature scavenger hunt looking for Oak leaves, Clover, Pine cones and a mystery object. We moved on to colouring with natural objects.

We found 3 shades of green, a range of brilliant yellow, but struggled with blue!

We took a little time out to explore the woods before heading off for lunch

We claimed 184 steps to get to a lunch room with a view.

Using the monument at Jenny's cottage, we worked out the direction and distance of some local towns and features.

Then we tracked to the den building site. And then the serious work began!
And after all our labours we had the most amazing dens! Ray Mears would have been impressed...

A lovely adventure, great work Yr3!

Class 4 'Countryside day' adventure at the Great Yorkshire Showground

We had an amazing day today at the Great Yorkshire Showground. After splitting into groups we headed for our first workshop.

Animal Anatomy

And then something odd happened...
Hmmm it seems that by using a wolf skull the boys are reminding us of the harsh truth of nature! 😐
We then moved onto equine care and learnt how to keep horses clean and healthy and how to deal with injury.

Just as we thought we were getting to grips with countryside pursuits... We met dancing sheep!

Just time for a quick trim.. Very professional!

Rope Making
Well what can I say, we made it..

And then, what else could we do but skip?!

Simply Science Workshop

With the help of our 2 'Professors' we explored bubbles, extreme weather, friction and the potential power if the air. A really brilliant opportunity for the kids to get stuck into some high school science!

The smoke filled bubbles were our favourites. Totally magical!

To round off our day we met some fa animals. The group favourites were these little chaps. (The Ducklings were cute too!)

Queen's 90th birthday celebrations

We had a wonderful time on Friday celebrating the Queen's special birthday. We joined together with the Parish Council and Gateways to have a real community celebration.

The children sang the National Anthem together and then performed choral pieces individually. Everyone agreed that the children sounded wonderful. Lord and Lady Harewood and the Dowager Duchess all enjoyed the performance.

After Prayers of thanks for the steadfast service of the Queen and good wishes for her future and that of the country, the children then presented the Dowager Duchess with flowers as she also has a 90th birthday this year.

She was thrilled with the thoughtfulness of the children and came to thank us for all our hard work.

What a perfect way to end our Royal Feature week!

(Wait.... no, we still had the Royal disco to go! What a week)

Thanks to everyone who joined us, it was great to have so many of you there.

TAG Rubgy team competition

Our team did an amazing job getting through to the inter-school semi finals. It could have been due to their amazing focus and fierce sporting attitude...

Or perhaps it was just because we enjoy supporting each other to be our best..

Whatever the reason, it was a great day and you should all be really proud. A great effort guys, well done!

Baking club in action...

We have the skills, we have the ingredients, the school day has finished...Let's bake!
Cracking eggs is a tricky business! But with some patience and a cup to put the shell pieces in, we managed it.

A good bit of baking if we do say so ourselves!

Video blog - Whole-school coin-rubbing art!

As part of our 'Royal Theme Week' to celebrate the Queen's 90th Birthday, all the pupils took part in various activities throughout the day in mixed-age house teams. In Class 4 with Mr Sturgess, we used coin rubbings of the Queen's head to create a huge art design! We made a time-lapse film of the day too which I've uploaded - they usually work best if you view on a computer but there's pictures below too - Happy Birthday Your Majesty!
