Yorkshire Wildlife Park ~ Class 2

Last week the children in Class 2 had a fabulous day out at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster. The sun was shining and it was a brilliant opportunity for the children to see some of the animals up close and personal that we have studied during the year including tigers and polar bears.

The lions were basking in the sunshine.

We saw the lions and lionesses which looked magnificent.

The giraffes were having breakfast and one was having a brush down which it seemed to be enjoying very much. We found out that the reason giraffes have such long necks is so that they can reach the leaves that grow high up, they have exclusive access to their own food source in the wild!

The children were fascinated by the beautiful tigers. They felt very passionate about the fact that tigers are an endangered species and that humans are their biggest threat.

Time for some refreshment!

We had certainly built up an appetite for our picnic lunch.

After we had all re-fuelled and rested it was on to the Polar  Project.

There are four polar bears at the park.

Some were sitting on the ground and some were swimming in the water.

We spent a long time looking at the polar bears.

Time for a group photo!

We had fun watching the lemurs as we could see them really close up in a special woodland area with an airlock gate.

Lots of children said they wanted a lemur as a pet as they were so cute. Some children said they actually wanted to be a lemur!

On to the wallaby walkabout!

A quick hand wash and time for an afternoon treat...

We had a brilliant day out. All the adults were really impressed by the behaviour and high level of interest of all the children, it was a fitting end to a what has been a really successful and enjoyable year.
Everyone in Class 2 would like to wish you all a lovely summer holiday.
