Class 4 have it all mapped out!

What an amazing day we have had with 'Team Walking'. Outdoor learning is a very important part of our curriculum here at Harewood, so we leapt at the chance to have a day dedicated to developing our map reading and orientation skills.

Mark, Graeme and Tamsin started the day with a map workshop in the classroom. We learnt a little about the history of maps, before mapping out our journey to school and sketching contours.

Moving onto the school field, we learnt how to set our maps to north and how to create our own maps to scale. Equipped with our new skills, we set out on our hike around the Harewood estate.

As we walked we learnt more about our surroundings and how they are mapped. We also learnt the importance of co-operation during our blindfolded sensory walk!

For lunch, we created a sheltered spot - can you see us??

The day covered so many topics - maths, geography, science and history! All the children agreed that the outdoor classroom was a great way to learn. Many thanks to the PTA who part funded the day!
