Andra' tutto bene! Everything will be fine!

"Andra' tutto bene" in Italian means everything will be fine. This is the message Italian children have adopted as they use art to cope with the quarantine and spread the message of hope and positivity.

In Class 3, our children, in solidarity with their Italian peers, would like to share the same message of hope and positivity with everyone at Harewood C of E Primary school:

Andra' tutto bene - Everything will be fine!

World Book Day

On World Book Day all the children and staff all came dressed up as their favourite book characters.

There were some fabulous costumes

The chosen winners from each class received a book from the book fair.

In the afternoon we had an assembly so we could parade everyone's costumes.

We then did a book sharing activity where older children in school shared books with the younger children.

Which was lovely to see and all the children benefitted from.

Thank you to all the parents who provide such amazing costumes.
We all had a brilliant day and hopefully inspired the children to love their reading!

Eco-Week - Food Waste Audit

During Eco-Week, our Eco-committee children were very busy learning how to reduce food waste.
Thank you to our visitors Mr Mills and Ms Roebuck who organised lots of fun activities to help understand how to reduce food waste in school.
Before lunch, Class 4 took part in a very interesting lesson on food waste - super work, Class 4!

Then, during and after lunch, The Green Team carried out a food waste audit. We collected 6Kg of food from lunch time.  Ms Roebuck and the Eco team calculated that this was over 1.2 tonnes per year (or the weight of 40 x Bella!).  The food we collected has been recycled and it's ready to create green energy.

Well done, Green Team!

What if we were Super Hero Eco Warriors?

It has been an Eco Feature Week this week and we got off to a brilliant start with all the fabulous Eco show and tell contributions we received from home.

We have been learning about the properties of different materials over the past couple of weeks and this helped the children understand why plastics can be so damaging in the environment for such a long period of time.

We talked about what it means to be Eco friendly and how we can look after our wonderful world by recycling, reusing and also reducing our use of valuable resources. After sharing ideas and lots of fabulous discussion on Monday the plans for our ‘open house’ on Friday afternoon began to take shape. We read a book by Ellie Bethel called 'Michael Recycle' and this inspired us to create our own Eco Warrior Super Heroes using our super hero capes. The children decided which cape would represent which element of Eco Week. We needed four to cover all the elements of looking after the environment (including litter picking and looking after plants and animals), as well as the ‘Reduce, Recycle and Reuse’ categories. The children decided the fourth category would be ‘Love our wonderful World’. It was also their idea to make stickers with the ‘Super Hero’ images on and I thought it would be a good idea to choose cuddly animals from our extensive collection to wear the capes.

The sticker book idea came from the children’s love of making ‘books’ and cards with stickers on and we thought it would be something they could keep at home to remind them that they were the experts who taught all our visitors about how to look after our Wonderful World.

During the week we also learned a recycling song and watched a video of the song by Louis Armstrong ‘What a Wonderful World’ made by the BBC.

Finally, all our activities and areas were made ready for our VIP visitors. We had activities for Recycling, Reuse, Reduce and Love our World. The children earned one of the stickers we had designed together, and suck it in their book, when they had ‘taught’ our visitors about each specific area.

Thank you for coming! It was lovely to see so many parents join us in the afternoon. I hope everyone enjoyed themselves and were able to see how hard the children have been working over the week in preparation.
