Last week Class One said a sad farewell to the last of our chicks for this year when Lucky, Furry and Sleepy, our ducklings went to their new home.
The children have learnt so much from the hatching experience and we will miss having our little friends around to take care of. What we might not miss so much is all the cleaning up and the smell!
We really enjoyed helping them learn to swim. Although we didn't actually have to do much teaching because they were naturals - like ducks to water as they say!

As well as developing the children's knowledge and understanding, taking care of the ducks, sharing responsibilities and working as a team has developed their social skills. In addition to all these benefits the experience has also provided some excellent motivation for writing and creative work.
We know that, like the chicks, our ducklings have gone to a really good home and that we will be finding out more about them as they continue to grow and develop.
