High Adventure 2018 Day 4: Raft Building

This afternoon's activity was raft building. One sub-team were given the task of designing the raft, using grass and stones to represent the six poles and four barrels.
They each came up with different designs....

Meanwhile, another sub-team learned about crucial knot skills......
.....while the rest looked at how to attach the ropes to barrels.

Final discussions of plans with Cai, our instructor:

Then it was time for the planning team to present their proposals.....

'Close your eyes. Imagine it. You've just got to have the vision.....'
'Look. Maybe you guys just don't have the vision....'
The winning designer presents his ideas:
Beautiful sunshine today - perfect weather for rafting!

 It soon started taking shape!

Time to tighten up those knots!

 Such strength!

It was time to take the raft on the water...... will it hold???

It worked so brilliantly that they instructors gave them extra challenges - could they stand up without anyone falling in??

The next picture answers that question!!

 Racing the raft......

 A few wet feet.....

A finally - everyone helped to haul the equipment back to the shack!

What a great day! I'd better post quickly though because there is a talent contest going on right now - a final blog to follow!

*update - I've tried to enable comments on the blog which should come through to my email for moderation but it doesn't seem to be set up correctly and I can't figure out how to correct it I'm afraid - apologies to those trying to leave comments.
