KS1 Arch Bishop's Trust Young Leader's Award 2019
The Young Leaders Award is a unique active citizenship programme which empowers young people to make a difference in their local community whilst growing in key leadership skills at the same time.
The KS1 Award is an engaging and interactive set of materials, designed specifically for KS1, where pupils learn about key leadership and character skills and build habits of helping others.
The Award explores the theme ‘Small Steps, Big Change’ through the characteristics of kindness, perseverance, teamwork and action. We explored each of these characteristics in great depth, below you will find photographs of just some of the practical challenges we took part in.
We put our perseverance to the test with these testing activities.
This was a perfect opportunity to follow the children's latest craze and try out following instructions to make some tricky origami paper planes.
We also each made a 'stick at it stick' to remind us to stick at it when things get hard.
One of the characteristics we explored was teamwork.
For one of our challenges we played some outdoor games that required us to work smoothly as a team.
In this game we had to try move a hoop one full rotation around our circles without letting go of hands.
Next we tried 2 hoops!
Of course we had a go at the good old 3 legged race.
We soon found out it was much tricker than it looked!
For our final game we split into two teams, each team were given a sponge and an empty bucket. At the end of the running track was a bucket full of water. The aim of the game was to use the sponge to transport the water in order to fill your team's bucket of water before the other team.
On your marks... get set.... go!!
What a fun morning we had!
The children have done a superb job of their challenges so far.
I am looking forward to hearing from the children in September to find out about their sponsored read!
