Day 2- Rafting

We split into 2 teams to build our rafts. With the points from the morning's challenges, the children bought bits and bobs to build with. Once we had our shopping complete it was time to get it down to the water and commence building.

 Oh so outdoorsy!

 Planning a raft without paper was a challenge... but never fear, with a few bits of grass and a handful of stones we were sorted!

 Ready.... steady..... build!

 Precision is everything in building!

 And.... time for a quick meeting! We even improvised a meeting table...sadly no coffee! Honestly, that is all they think us teachers do in meetings- their own words :-)

 Hmmm now how do you make that clover knot again? Ok so we got the terms wrong but we aced the knots (thanks Cubs)

 For the first time ever, one team attempted a traingular raft...

 It was not long until the creative spirit kicked in and the raft became a star.... literally. Hmmmm I hear you saying, will it float?

 Quick guest appearence from Dave sparrow, pirate extrordinaire!

 Wow... what an amazing raft! But will the start raft float? Still no-one was sure, not even the instructors. But not to let a small matter like sinking into a pond put us off, we forged ahead.

 More ace knots!

 The other raft was impressively built with strong knots and a more reliable shape. At this point the odds were on that it would triumph... however

 As the team boarded the star raft, hopes were high.

 It floats!!!!!!!!!

 On the other side of the bank, the more traditional raft was listing wildly.

 Oh dear... its look like its all over.

Oh dont be silly, we snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

 What a dapper group of rafters we are!

 Nimble too!

 But we are all so dry.... something has gone wrong...... who fancies a swim?

 Oh soooooooo cold!

 Don't worry... I'll catch you (yes headteachering is very glamourous)

 

It was a fabulous afternooon but now its time for a shower and then lasagne! Yum!
