Day 3- going underground!

So... Wednesday has arrived and so a journey to the centre of the earth awaits. Excitement was high and so we threw some shapes in the carpark, just to limber up. (Not sure if the film clips will work but fingers crossed). All I'm saying, is that the other more serious caving groups looked on with a certain amount of scepticism at our outdoor survival prowess- how wrong could they be!

So.. limbered up an ready to tackle the abyss, we trudged through squidgy mud towards the cave entrance.

 Happiness abounded...
 What a chipper bunch!

See this tiny gap in the floor?- apparently a cave mouth! Mmmmmm looks a bit teeny to me.

 Goodbye sky... its mole time!

Now this particular cave wanted to make sure we were up to the task early on and so we started the adventure shimmying between two flat faces along a very narrow passage.

Someone just reaffirming that the cave was in fact made of rock- that looks a bit like fish scales.
 Group photo time...

Ah look the sun came out!
Good job as we are heading deeper .....(now for those of you picking up on the 'we', you might surmise that my meeting was cancelled and so I had no justifiable reason to leave the children and escape back to school and so am in fact underground! What fun!)

Honestly, its at times like this that you just marvel at how amazing kids are!

Challenge 1- wiggle through a little tunnel no wider than your own body

 and... into a massive puddle

We were all so proud of ourselves, that we had a quick dance to 'RunDMC' from a handy iPhone
Oh heck- challenge 2- even skinnier tunnel, this time with a bend and turn required.

 And a slide!
Caving is a serious business- honest!

Challenge 3- small post box like hole that leads into a tight wiggle tunnel and then into... you guessed it, another massive puddle.

Positivity was high- these guys just love a challenge.

 Time for a little camouflage!

And some mad posing- well there isn't a lot to do underground!

Oh my... what have we here? Another crazily small tunnel... fancy wiggling through it like a squashed worm? Why yes, just what I was hoping for!

What a fab team! They did every challenge with a smile... so supportive of each other. I am very proud at this point.

This cave was a challenge for the children; they had to lead themselves through it, shadowed unbeknownst to them by the instructors. It takes some serious guts to venture into the darkness...
 Triumph! Nice work team!

The final cave was really teeny weeny- half filled with water and super small. But that did not quell our lot's adventurous spirit, they zoomed off into it, keen as mustard.
Getting out, however, was a different matter!

 Aced it!

We were in some doubt about the physical possibility of getting Mr Timbs out of the cave- it looked tricky for a while!

But no.... triumph once again! Go Harewood!

Feeling extremely proud to have beaten the final challenge!

 Now who could this be?

Fear not, he did get out eventually!

We finished of the afternoon with a quick spot of low ropes- spot the sloth impressions.

This is trickier than it looks!

Some people can make anything look good! Nice one Miss B!

And now onto the sloth impressions- this is so fun!

 Team work!

We all quite enjoyed this particular interlude... however we can smell tea cooking and so are off for a quick wash and brush up before food.

The Blind Line

Partner activity reliant on effective communication- what could possibly go wrong?

There's some thing on your hat!?

And now for the team element of the game- follow pup through the maze, but don't lose the team....

'We're climbing under a mini-bus' Um no... not quite.

During this interlude, the instructor led the group into a single shower cubicle, saying it was a lift. Didn't take long for one of the little imps to find the lift button though- quite a surprise. Hilarity ensued!

It has been a wonderful day, with more challenges than hot meals- we loved it! See you tomorrow
